3M opens new logistics center

With the expansion of the European distribution center in Jüchen the multi-technology company is strengthening its most important logistics location in Europe.

Storage area of 72,000 m² will be provided for 100,000 pallets which, if placed end to end, would stretch for 120 kilometers. The daily volume of incoming and outgoing goods is equivalent to the weight of 660 VW Golf passenger cars.

In order to cope with this flow of goods it was necessary to expand the existing warehouse. In addition to its own previous warehouse capacity in Jüchen, 3M therefore also rents and uses 30,000 m² in a new warehouse which was constructed in just seven months by the company's long-standing logistics partner, Kleine Gruppe. The expansion, which involved an investment sum of 25 million euros, means that the logistics center has almost doubled its capacity.

"With this expansion we want to secure the service we provide for our customers in the long term and to support our future growth," says Günter Gressler, CEO of 3M Deutschland GmbH.

At the official inauguration, Hannelore Kraft, Minister-President of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia underlined the importance of the investment for the location: "Without innovations and creative products, North Rhine-Westphalia's economy would not be where it is today. I am delighted that such a successful and innovative company as 3M has located its headquarters, its European distribution center and several plants in North Rhine-Westphalia."
